Prof. Jean-Marie Georges (1939-2015), senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF) and Tribology Gold Medallist, developed one of the leading tribology research groups, worldwide — the Laboratoire de Tribologie et Dynamique des Systèmes (LTDS). The focus of Prof. Georges’ research activities was on understanding tribological mechanisms at the nanometer scale. An outstanding aspect of his work was his enthusiasm in communicating his research to a broad audience and to place the findings in the context of both engineering and society.
This meeting, entitled “TRIBOLOGY: INTERACTIONS BEYOND THE SURFACE: A tribute to Prof. Jean-Marie Georges”, aims at remembering this great man’s vision of tribology as a multidisciplinary science with extended impact on everyday life. From his vision emerges the need for creating new interactions between scientific fields and communities, from school to industry.
This meeting will consist of invited scientific talks from renowned scientists, from tribology and beyond, and two panel discussions on teaching methodology and on research/industry partnerships.
Organized by LTDS, this event will take place on 30th-31st of March, 2016 at the Ecole Centrale de Lyon, France.
